There is a new hard core style of dance that has hit the streets which is being used in America to some success to help stop violence on the street. Instead of kids shooting it out and killing each other they match wits and dance moves trying to claim the crown and become the best of the best. Krumping is a wild and crazed style of dance that involves plenty of head swinging and a certain amount of body movement as well as looking like you are having a fit. Once the krumping competition gets underway then there is little that will stop the masses of flesh thrown around on the dance floor. They say that some activities are dangerous but krumping looks like you are going to cause some serious damage.

All the kids today know how to krump and you can see them practicing on the side walk and in the school grounds. The best part about it is that the kids don’t even know they are keeping out of trouble because dancing is one of the more favorable things to do when you are aged between 12 and 18. Everyone claim to have their own unique krumping style however what looks like the same moves played over and over again is pretty much just that and nothing more.

Krumping is a dance movement, originally formed by gangs in America to be able to express themselves. Now it has developed to a more commercial and mainstream form of dancing. Krumping moves are generally exaggerated and big, with lots of chest moving and arm swinging in a highly energetic manner.

Krumping usually involves battles, which isn’t as aggressive as it sounds. In fact it is a fun way to express yourself. It basically involves 3 people who are krumping who have a dance off to see who can pull out the best moves.

Krumping is popular in American communities where people will often start a session on the street. As session involves everyone forming a circle and the krumper displaying his or her moves in the middle. This is similar to Hip-hop or break-dancing when people freestyle and ‘cipher’.

It can be seen in many music videos, the most popular is Christina Aguleira’s ‘get dirty’ which feature some very high energy moves. Madonna, Missy Elliot, Black Eyed Peas and even the Chemical Brothers have all had videos which show dancers krumping.

Like hip-hop krumping has its own slang terms which are used by those in the krumping community. If someone performs a ‘buck’ then that is considered to be a move that is extremely impressive and hard to pull-off. Labbin’ is a term used to describe when members of a krumping crew get together and try to create new buck moves. Krumping is set to gain even more popularity in the future, with classes starting to spring up in America.
